Welcome! September 27, 2005
We invite you to explore the information we have assembled in these pages about Southampton’s historic places and what we’re doing to protect and preserve these defining elements of our community. Also included is reference information for owners undertaking repairs, maintenance or other work on their historic properities.
We are contining to update and expanding the site periodically so please visit often. This edition adds an excellent 1932 history of Vincentown. We’ve add excerpts from Barber and Howe’s 1844 Historical Collections of the State of New Jersey, one of the first published histories of the state; a text transcription has been provided for the description of Northampton Township (which at that time included all of what is not Southampton) and page images provided for all of the townships in Burlington Country. A woodcut image from this book of Main Street, Vincentown c.1844 is an exciting addition.
Our collection of historic photos continues to expand thanks to new contributions from the Southampton Historical Society, the Burlington County Library, and Dorothy Best. We’re continuing to expand our page of Links to historical organizations, museums, and on-line histories that may be of interest our readers.
If you have historical information, old maps, or photographs you would like to share with the community, please contact us; it is only though sharing of our local history that we can keep it alive! Contributions and feedback about the site are welcomed. We would love to hear from you!
