Irick Hall/J.B.Nixon Blacksmith Shop
Mill Street, Vincentown, NJ
c.1865

This early photograph shows Irick Hall when the first floor was used by J.B. Nixon for his blacksmith shop. The second floor was used as a community hall and was called “Irick Hall”.

The second floor hall was used for entertainment, community gatherings, and before construction in 1883 of the Town Hall on Plum Street it was used for meetings of the township government.

Notice the advertisement on the right-hand door for a dramatization of Uncle Tom’s Cabin . This book (see an early edition) was wildly popular upon its release in 1851 and was quickly dramatized and performed throughout the Civil War.

Irick Hall/Irick Cabinet Shop
Mill Street, Vincentown, NJ
c.1875

This photograph shows Irick Hall probably later than the above; the gentleman in the doorway appears to be J.B. Irick. In 1876, the J.D. Scott map of Vincentown shows the that the Blacksmith shop under Irick Hall was operated by Clayton Sapp. The Nixon blacksmith shop seems to have relocated to Red Lion Road (photo).
